A GARDEN FOR ADELE

Installation Details

A Garden for Adele was commissioned by the School of Photographic Arts: Ottawa in the summer of 2018. Starting in May, Deborah planted the seeds for the plants she learned about when she first moved to Little Italy, Ottawa - Adele was one of her first gardening "teachers". In the garden there were scarlet runner beans, multi-coloured tomatoes, multi-coloured peppers, hot purple peppers, eggplants, dill, cosmos and calendula.  As the plants grew so did the bamboo structures that Deborah erected.

An homage to Italian home gardens in the neighbourhood, planted in small plots. The site had been barren before the installation was started. By the fall it was filled with vegetable and ornamental plants as well as pollinators.
